FAQ's - USA Kilts

A: Unfortunately, the tartans available for our Casual and Semi Traditional models are limited. The mill that weaves our Poly Viscose material chose about 70 different tartans to produce and unfortunately, not every tartan (there are thousands) is woven in PV. Of those 70, we try to keep about 30 to 35 in stock at all times. If you don’t see your tartan listed, drop me an email (Rocky@USAKilts.com) and I can tell you if it’s available in PV.

If your tartan is NOT available in PV, there IS a good chance that we may be able to get that tartan in wool. Keep in mind that getting a man’s kilt in wool would put it in either the “5 yard wool” or "Premier Kilt" category. If you would like a Women’s Kilted Skirt or Mini Kilt in wool, the prices are listed on those pages. If you are interested in our 5 Yard Wool ($350 to $400) or Premier model kilt ($450 to $600 depending on measurements), we'd be happy to research your individual tartan and email you a price quote. All we'll need to send you a quote is your tartan choice and your measurements.

Please keep in mind that we do have a few "generic" tartans in PV... Ireland’s National, Scottish National, Blackwatch, Royal Stewart, etc. can be worn by all… or just pick the tartan you like!

Q: Do you have my Irish Name tartan?

A: Most Irish names do not have tartans associated with them. There are only a VERY select few and they are expensive to have woven. Most of our Irish customers that want to wear a tartan get their County tartan or the Irish / Ireland’s National tartan.

The County tartans are only woven in wool and that would put them in our 5 yard wool or Premier Kilt categories. The Ireland’s National tartan is available in wool and PV, so it is available for any style of USA Kilt (Casual, Semi Traditional, 5 yard wool OR Premier). Q: I only know my last name… can you tell me my family history?

A: While we do have a stand of small (4” wide by 6” high… about 30 pages long) clan origins books in our store (available in store for $5 or we can ship them for $7 total), we do not actively research your family history. We are limited to telling you if your name is a sept of a larger clan or selling you a small Clan Origins book (if your name is available).

There are LOTS of places on the web that can research your name and clan affiliations for you… some are free, some charge money. If you need to do some research, we’d suggest visiting a search engine (i.e. www.yahoo.com or www.google.com) and searching on phrases like “[insert surname here] family history” or “[insert surname here] genealogy”.

Please note that we are in NO WAY affiliated with anything that pops up on a genealogy search (unless the USA Kilts site pops up).

Q: What’s the USA Kilts Return Policy?

A: USA Kilts & Celtic Traditions Return Policy:

While we VERY rarely have problems with products being returned, we figured that it was time to put our policy in writing so that everything is laid out in simple terms in black and white.

Items offered for sale on our site fall into 2 categories… PREMADE (i.e. Off the Rack kilts, T shirts, Sporrans, Kilt Hose, etc.) and CUSTOM made (any kilt other than an “Off the Rack”).

PREMADE Products: If you bought a PREMADE item, they are returnable within 14 days of the postage date, in “resellable” condition. What is “resellable” condition, you ask? The item can’t be washed, dirty, worn, ripped, have spots on it, have the tag off or anything else that would prevent us from selling it to someone. Bottom line… if you aren’t sure that you want to keep something you bought, try it on at home for 5 or 10 minutes before making a decision. If you buy an “off the rack” kilt, please wear an undergarment the first time you try it on, so if it’s too big or too small, you can send it back clean (health code reasons). If you spend a night at the pub in a t-shirt and try to send it back, we won’t credit you. If you send something back that we deem is in re-sellable condition within the 14 day period, you can exchange it or get your money back. Please note, that shipping charges for items returned are NOT refundable. Also, if you'd like to exchange an item, there will be another small shipping charge to re-ship an item to you.

The only exception to this rule is Kilt Hose… once opened, they can not be returned for sanitary (and health code) reasons.

CUSTOM Made Products: There’s a reason that we stress PROPER MEASURING on the site and in the measuring instructions… There are NO returns on custom made products. If you receive a kilt and it doesn’t fit, there are 2 possibilities.

1. We did not make the kilt to the measurements you sent us. If THIS is the case, we will replace the kilt or adjust it to the original measurements given at OUR cost.

2. If the kilt was made to the measurements given but the MEASUREMENTS themselves were incorrect, then there will be a charge to adjust the kilt to the proper size and for return shipping costs. If the measurements were FAR off, the kilt may need to be re-ordered.

In either scenario, once the kilt is returned to our shop, we will re-measure it and check those measurements against our order on file. Bottom line… If we made the mistake, we’ll fess up and fix it. If you made the mistake, we’ll charge you a modest fee to adjust the size if it’s possible. Either way, there is no returning a custom made kilt.
