Premier 8 Yard Wool Kilt

Details

Our Premier Kilts are made from the finest 8 yards (or 9 for bigger guys) of worsted wool woven in the UK. These kilts are part machine sewn and part hand sewn. The pleats are lined up to an exacting standard so that the lines running horizontally across the back of the kilt are continuous. The fell is sewn down and tapered to your measurements to allow for a proper fit.

The front apron is fringed on the right side while the bottom edge of the kilt has a finished edge. The last pleat on the right hip is angled and reversed to allow better movement of the front apron and to maintain the integrity of the other pleats. This kilt has two 4 inch tall belt loops on the back to accommodate a traditional kilt belt and comes with a traditional 3 buckle / strap closure system (2 on the right side, 1 on the left side). The interior of each kilt is fully hand finished and lined with a cotton lining over canvas to maintain rigidity of the upper portion of the kilt (and to reinforce the structure of the garment).

We can make this kilt in any of the stock wool tartans shown in our extensive tartan gallery found in the "Tartans" tab above this text.  We have access to thousands of tartans, including: Scottish Clan tartans, Universal (i.e. District & Fashion) tartans, Irish tartans and Welsh tartans. For those who demand a superior product, our Premier Kilt is for you.

We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts.  Since these are custom-made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring.  Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab above this text.

Question: My tartan is available in 13 AND 16 oz cloth... which should I get?

The weight of the cloth is a personal preference.  13 oz cloth is considered "Medium Weight" while 16 oz is considered "Heavy Weight".  While they will both make a very nice kilt, which weight you want is a matter of taste.  We would ask you to consider your environment... If you're the type of person who is always 'warm', live in a hot / humid climate or will be wearing your kilt most often outdoors during the summer, then we'd suggest the 13 oz cloth.  If you are always cool, live in a cool climate (Canada or northern USA), or will be wearing the kilt indoors most of the time, a 16 oz kilt may be right for you.

Question:  Why are there so many / so few choices for my name?

Our wool tartan gallery shows you every stock tartan from every mill in the UK.  We want to make sure our customers can weigh all of their options before making a decision.  We don't just use 1 mill or 2 mills for our cloth... we use the top 7 tartan mills in the UK (plus some smaller ones for custom weaves).  This gives our customers the maximum number of tartan options we can provide.

Some clans have only 1 tartan or there may only be 1 mill that weaves a specific tartan.  Larger clans may have DOZENS of tartan designs woven by multiple mills.  The options shown in the "Tartans" tab above list them all.

This is my first kilt, and I am overwhelmed by the quality. My dearest friends purchased it as an anniversary gift, and I am blown away with the fit, comfort and attention to every detail. I'm wearing it almost every day, and couldn't be happier. My kilt had a letter from Rocky which assured me that all I had to do was contact him if I had any concerns. Rocky, it is absolutely perfect! Thank you for doing such impeccable work. (Posted on 2/12/12)

I own not one, but two of USA Kilts' 8 yard Premier Kilts in two variations of my family tartan and quite simply, they are the finest and most versatile garments in my wardrobe. Over the years I have worn them to weddings, holiday dinners, church services, highland games, funerals, anniversary celebrations, the theatre, my children's school events, and a wide variety of casual, semi-formal and formal dinners and events.

Contrary to any popular misconception, these wool kilts are cool in the summer, warm in the winter and have an amazingly wide application to my existing wardrobe; I've worn them with t-shirts or ties, dress shoes or boots or even the full highland attire.

Everything about these kilts says "quality" and I will be just as proud to hand them down to my children as I am each and every time I strap them on myself and go out into the world dressed in the style these Premier kilts afford me. (Posted on 9/21/11)
