Semi Traditional Kilt

Details

USA Kilts “Semi Traditional” model kilts will wear well in both casual and more formal settings.  From sporting events and concerts to higland games, dinners or weddings, this kilt will see you through a great variety of events in style.  Wear it any time you wish to dress more authentically... or wear it with a T Shirt!  The Semi Traditional kilt provides a multitude of wardrobe options in one quality garment.

Our Semi Traditional kilts are ALL custom made to your measurements. This model generally has 18- 28 pleats (.9 to 1 inch wide) and a triple buckle closure system. Each one has a tapered and fringed front apron and tapered pleats to ensure a proper fit. They come with 2 belt loops (4 inches tall) on the back of the kilt to accommodate a traditional kilt belt.  The Semi Traditional kilts are all hand pleated with an exacting standard to either the Sett or the Stripe.

Like the Casual, our Semi Traditional kilts are made from Poly Viscose material (65% / 35%), which is an 11 - 12 oz. machine washable fabric. The P.V. material we buy is woven in the U.K. and has a combination of Low Pill™ technology and a Teflon® finish applied. This means that you won't get those little "pills" that form on fabric over months of wear and that even if you spill something on your kilt, it's easily wiped off.  The tartans we carry are all registered with the Scottish Tartan Registry.

While there are no real rules about what tartans people are entitled to wear, if you are more comfortable wearing a universal tartan that was specifically designed for everyone, we’ve marked them with a ** beside the tartan names in the tartan gallery.  To see the tartans, please click on the "Tartans" tab above this text.

We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts.  Since these are custom made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring.  Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab above this text.

  1. Love my kilt! Review by Andy

Scottish National. Casual or formal, my kilt works for both which is exactly what I wanted. The fabric is heavy enough to have the pleat swish and light enough to wear in Texas. (Posted on 5/13/12)

My order for the semi-trad Tara was placed on the 22nd of Feb. After speaking with the very friendly staff at USA Kilts I was assured that they would do their very best to fill my rush order and have it to me by the 10th of March. Imagine my surprise when I got an email on Feb 28 saying that my kilt was completed, boxed, and being shipped the next day. The craftsmanship is excellent, from the stitching to the hardware and leather. I'll never order form another kilt maker again. Thank you so much. (Posted on 3/3/12)

Ireland's National (like the picture). When I took the semi-traditional out of the package, the quality was immediately evident. Everything from the straps and buckles to the workmanship was very impressive. I will be wearing this kilt to formal events. I like the fact that the fabric is durable and spill resistant. I won't have to worry as much about it getting damaged. After receiving this kilt, I would like to upgrade my Farquharson (modern) casual kilt. Its that much better for not that much more money. Purchased mine about 4 years ago. Had it pleated to the yellow stripe and it looks amazing. The pleats hold their shape and have a nice "flow" while walking. Material quality is nothing short of the best. The PV is durable and the color is rich. Will definitely be purchasing another soon. (Posted on 12/6/11)

MacBeth Ancient. The workmanship is fantastic & the fabric is top notch. This is my 1st Semi-Trad. But it won't be my last. Thank you very much for such a great product. (Posted on 10/25/11)

  6. Unparalleled Value Review by Jason

I wear my semi-trad almost everywhere. It's construction is superb and most folks can't tell that it's a machine sewn P/V kilt at first glance. I tend to wear mine pretty casually, but it will dress up just fine. This is the perfect kilt for someone who's new to kilts and might not want to throw down on a fully bespoke wool tank [8 Yard Premier Kilt] just yet. (Posted on 10/24/11)

Isle of Skye. Excellent quality. The PV Semi-trad works fine at the bar, at the office, and I would wear it with the full formal outfit. I will surely be bugging Rocky with more orders, as I fill out my kilt wardrobe. I can say the same about my American Heritage Casual, with reservations. I wear the casual almost everywhere, and to the office, too, but I would not wear it with formal gear, as I would with the Semi-Trad. (Posted on 10/13/11)

I think that this is the best kilt you can buy anywhere. Weather you're going out to a formal function or hiking in the hills, this is the best kilt you can buy. I will definitely order again. (Posted on 9/21/11)
