Which Kilt is Right For Me?
We believe that an informed consumer makes for a happy customer. We want the kilt
that you receive to live up to your expectations and exceed them! We've broken down
our kilts and their traits and lined them up with what we believe to be the traits of
our customers. Which USA Kilt is right for you? You be the judge...
These kilts are made of the finest 13 oz or 16 oz worsted wool, woven in the UK.
These kilts are part machine sewn, part hand sewn. The pleats are lined up to an exacting standard so that the lines running horizontally across the back of the kilt are continuous. They are sewn down 8 inches from the waistband and tapered to your measurements to allow for a proper fit.
The front apron is fringed on the right side while the bottom edge of the kilt has a finished edge. The last pleat on the right hip is angled and reversed to allow better movement of the front apron and to maintain the integrity of the other pleats. This kilt has two 4 inch wide belt loops on the back to accommodate a traditional kilt belt. It comes with a 3 buckle / strap closure system (2 on the right hip, 1 on the left hip), with each leather strap measuring 1.5 inches wide. The interior of each kilt is lined with a heavy cotton lining and canvas to maintain the integrity of the rigid section of the kilt.
If you want a high quality wool kilt and demand a superior product, then the USA Kilts Premier model kilt is for you.
The USA Kilts “5 Yard Wool Kilt” is for a good variety of people. It’s for the guy who REALLY wants to wear his own tartan, but it’s not available in PV (our Semi Traditional or Casual kilt). It’s for the guy who loves the weight and swing of wool, but doesn’t want to spend $500 - $600 on a Premier. It’s for the guy who already HAS a Premier and wants something a little lighter to go out on the town. It’s great for the guy who lives in a warmer climate for “year round wear” or for the man in a cooler climate who needs a nice kilt with less material for summer wear, when a Premier would be too hot.
The 5 Yard Wool is a combination of our Premier and Semi Trad models… it’s BUILT the same way as our Semi Traditional kilt, but it’s made from wool like our Premier model. This opens up a HUGE new list of available tartans, but you can still get a kilt for under $400.
Our Semi Traditional model is for the guy who already owns an entry level kilt and wants
to move up to a more traditional looking model. It's also for the guy who really wants a
custom, hand sewn kilt, but just can't spend the $600 to $800. This customer demands the
same quality, craftsmanship and look, but wants it at 1/3 the price.
These kilts are made with Poly Viscose (and select few cotton twills). They are all MACHINE WASHABLE. Can your Scottish import do that? They all have: 3 buckle closure system, tapered and fringed front apron, small pleats (.75 to 1 inch) and 2 four inch belt loops on the back. The general overall material used in a Semi Traditional is 6 to 8 yards.
If you HAVE or WANT an imported Scottish Kilt and expect / demand similar quality and construction for 1/3 the price, the USA Kilts Semi Traditional model is for you!
The USA Kilts Casual Model is for the "lazy guy" (after all, I designed it) and for the person who already has another entry level kilt. It's for the highland athlete who doesn't want to look like "the guy in the skirt" around all those wool kilts.
The material used for the Casual is Poly Viscose and select few other materials. The pleat width generally falls between 1.25 to 1.5 inches and the overall material length is generally 4 to 6 yards. The Casual comes with our Perma Pleat (tm) system to lessen the need to iron the kilt! It also has tapered hips, velcro closure, a tapered front apron and 3 belt loops to fit a standard 1.5 inch belt.
If you're just starting to wear kilts or like the idea of kilts as casual daily wear, then the USA Kilts Casual model is for you!
