  • Product Description

"In Stock" Casual kilts are available in limited tartans, in limited sizes and will ship out within 24 hours.  In the rare instance something is out of stock when the order is placed, we'll let you know immediately.

Our Casual Kilt is made from the best “non wool” tartan fabric available:  a 12 oz Polyester Viscose material that is woven in the UK.  This fabric is extremely hard wearing, has Low Pill™ technology to resist pilling and is Teflon® coated to resist stains.  It holds a crisp pleat and is easy to iron.

The Casual Kilt is designed for the budget-minded customer or first time kilt wearer hesitant to make the investment in a more expensive kilt.  It’s also great for highland athletes, runners, and anyone looking for a low-yardage kilt with excellent durability and stain resistance. It’s perfect for wearing to the pub or in situations where spills or getting dirty is expected.

Measuring for your kilt:  We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts.  Since these are custom made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring.  Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab below this text.

    Waist

The Casual Kilt can either be worn at the "True Waist" (A) like a traditional kilt or at the "Jeans Waist" (B). This is where the top of the kilt will sit.

DO NOT HOLD YOUR STOMACH IN. You’ll only going to get a kilt that's too small.  Just relax and stand "at ease".

Make sure to use a good sewing tape measure. If you don't have a sewing tape measure, you can use a leather belt to measure. Wrap it around you, mark it and then lay it flat on a metal tape measure to get the measurement.

The tape measure should be snug – as snug as you will be wearing the kilt.

*Note: It will probably be 2 to 4 inches more than your pants size. This is common.

*TIP: BIG guys with large bellies may want to wear the kilt around the naval, as it gives a more flattering appearance.

    Hip

With the same tape measure, measure around the absolute largest part of your rear.

Take this measurement a little LOOSELY. You should be able to slide a finger between the tape measure and your body when you measure.

This is the number we use for your hip size. In most cases, it's about 4-6 inches larger than the waist measurement.

    Length

If possible, it’s best to take the length measurement wearing shorts and a form fitting t-shirt.  There are 3 different ways to measure length:

    1) With assistance

    2) With bath towel assistance

    3) Without assistance

    1) Length Measurement with assistance

Stand tall with your back straight. Do NOT look down or bend over as this will change the length measurement. Just stand tall and face forward.

Have the other person measure down the SIDE of your leg. On your side, put the "0" end of the tape measure at the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from). Measure from that point down the side of your body to the middle of your knee.

The number on the tape that is right where the bottom edge of the kilt will be is the length.

    2) Length Measurement with bath towel assistance

Take a bath towel and FOLD IT so that it is 22" long.

Wear a pair of shorts, so you can see your knees and stand roughly 10 feet back from a full length mirror. Hold the towel up to your waist, putting the top of the towel at the spot you took the waist measurement.

If the 22" length hits below your knee, shorten the towel by folding another inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.

If the 22" length hits above your knee, lengthen the towel by unfolding an inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.

Once you have the top of the towel sitting at the top of where you want to wear the kilt and the bottom edge hitting the middle of your knee, measure the length of the folded towel from the top to the bottom. That will be your kilt length measurement.

    3) Length measurement without assistance

Kneel on the floor with your back straight. You're going to measure down the SIDE of your leg to the floor.

From the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from), measure down the side of your body to the floor down the side of your leg. It's easier to put the "0" end of the tape measure barely touching the floor and the numbered end at the top.

SUBTRACT 1" FROM THIS MEASUREMENT to have the kilt sit at the middle of the knee.

Use the following chart for reference. These are typical height / length measurements.

I’m pleased that it came pleated to the sett!

Great weight, appropriate for casual setting. I do own a wool kilt weighing about 3x what this one does…but it only gets out for more formal occasions.

I purchased the Kilt before St. Patrick's Day, during the special sale.

The Kilt is well fitting and looks really great. I will be shopping for another Kilt from Y'All (as we say in Texas) soon.
I am sad to see that the regular prices have went up though. That said, the quality of the product is excellent. (Posted on 3/30/2023)

My first kilt was from Amazon. While that utility kilt is.. what it is.. it's nothing like what USA Kilts produces. The attention to detail, fitment, and all around material choices are fantastic. I've gotten many compliments! The only thing I would change is the length. Amazon kilts are almost all 24" long, which is too much for short people, but I feel 22" is a little short for "average height" wearers. I'm 5'10", and this kilt (when worn at/slightly above the naval) falls above my knees. I have to wear it a bit lower to have it not look short. But after watching these guys on YouTube, and learning their passion, I'm sure their measurement choices were well thought out. All in all, I should've came here first, and I'll definitely be returning for a Topstich! (Posted on 2/15/2022)

Now, I'm hardly a highland games athlete, but I have been wearing USA Kilts for my regular and obstacle races for almost 15 years. I'm on my third one now--not because the other two have worn out, but because I wanted to finally get a green one for a St. Paddy's 5k. These kilts are extremely durable... even after scores of mud runs, they look practically new... not even a snag!

Plus, being made of PV instead of wool makes my vegan girlfriend happy :) (Posted on 3/2/2020)

I bought this kilt (my 4th) to add some colour variety to my collection. The tartan is better in person than the internet pictures; the quality is very high and the PV material has a nice weight for my southeastern climate. Service and delivery were top notch as well! (Posted on 12/15/2017)

Material is well made, tartan is nice. Fairly light weight. 1.5in belt loops, 1 in back, 1 on each side of front. Probably 2.5in or so max adjustability up from measured size, 1-2 in down. Pleats hold nicely, good swing. Side straps would be nice as this kilt appears quite traditional. Very happy with this! (Posted on 6/26/2015)
