    NEW AND EXCLUSIVE!

Carved with the highest attention to detail, USA Kilts is pleased to introduce a new massive kilt pin for the warrior in us all - Fenrir. In Norse legend, Fenrir (or Fenris) was the great primordial wolf. A force of chaos, he was an even match in battle to any of the Gods, even Odin, who would eventually fall to him in the battle of Ragnarok.

And yet, the power of Fenrir has become a favorite theme in Nordic art. To the Vikings, the wolf symbolized an indomitable will to survive and the refusal to submit to one’s foes. If this sounds like you, then this is your kilt pin.

The design, conceived by an American artist of Celtic & Norse heritage, combines the very best of ancient as well as contemporary art. Our UK-based craftsmen form high-quality pewter into swirling Celto-Norse knotwork. The head of Fenris is rendered in energetic modern style - you can almost hear his jaws snapping. Not for the meek -- this over-sized, rugged kilt pin measures a full 2" wide x 4" tall! It can do double duty as a brooch for a woman's shawl or sash!

A nod to my Viking heritage. The posts for the button clasps were slightly bent but I don't think it will affect its use, otherwise, it would have been a five-star rating. (Posted on 10/28/2022)

Where does the kilt pin go on a kilt?

The basic placement is as follows:Place your kilt pin on the right-hand side of the front apron, 4-6 inches from the bottom of the kilt and 2 inches in from the fringe. Some sources will be more exact with their suggested placement. For instance saying that the pin must be exactly four inches from the bottom of the kilt apron.

However, the truth is that it depends on the shape of the pin, the size of the pin, and your personal preference. This is especially true today as more and more men are getting creative with what they use as kilt pins. Most advice for placement of the kilt pin assumes the accessory is of the classic sword shape and around 3.5" in length.

In fact, many pins are now larger and of different shapes (though usually still oblong). And as mentioned, kilt enthusiasts are using alternate items for kilt pins such as military uniform pieces, collectable enamel pins, mementos from loved ones, or even homemade DIY kilt pins made from exotic materials. So the placement of the kilt pin is not set in stone.

We recommend following the basic pattern above, but modify it to suit. Trust your eye. The horizontal placement of the pin usually won't change much, but you may wish to wear the pin higher. If the pin is larger (such as our own popular Fenrir Kilt Pin), it will probably look better if placed a little higher up on the apron. More "balanced" and less "dangly").

One thing you can also consider is aligning the kilt pin so that it is centered in a sett square of your tartan -- or running along a specific stripe. This can be fun and very sharp. And still another option is to wear the pin VERY high , about mid-thigh, in what was the standard Victorian and Edwardian position. At the time, kilt pins were often round, not sword-shaped. And they were sometimes used to keep the apron layers closed, at a time when hip straps were less common. Today some gentlemen like to imitate the vintage kilt wearing styles and customs. If that's you, have fun. Just always double-check your look in the mirror before you go out.

By the way, we always recommend you ONLY pin the kilt pin through the front apron and not the layers underneath. Modernly, kilt pins function only as decorations and a sort of wind weight to keep your apron from flopping about in the breeze.
