Product Description
Our Irish-made Grandfather shirt (aka Grandad Shirt, Graddad shirt, Irish Laborer Shirt, Banded collar shirt, Stand Up Collar Shirt, etc.) is inspired by the shirts of Irish working men of the 19th and early 20th century. However it is cut a little nicer and has cooler buttons than the old gents would have worn. Nevertheless, this is a cotton-linen shirt that can take abuse and still look dashing. Pairs perfectly with a kilt when you want something nicer than a t-shirt, but not as dressy as a dress shirt. Looks great with jeans too! -

Value Quality Price The shirt is better than I expected, I always wanted a grandfather shirt and I don't think I could have done better than this one. (Posted on 12/26/2019) - Love it! Mark S.

Quality Price Value I am a huge fan of the fit, quality, and look of the shirt. I will definitely be buying some more of these. (Posted on 12/23/2019) - Fantastic! Steve

Price Value Quality I took the advise on reviews and ordered a size larger than I normally wear, and it fits beautifully. I love the feel and the look. My wife thinks I look sexy in it. There may be snow on the roof, but there is still fire in the furnace. I might need to order more! (Posted on 12/16/2019) - Too smal and short Michael

Price Value Quality I felt the size of the shirts fell too short, XXXL barely fit and the arms were defintely to short. I am 6'1 ,265 lbs. , 18 inch neck 52 chest. It was Civilian brand so I would size up and hope for the best. Material was really good and it was tailored well, just too small (Posted on 12/11/2019) - Spot on Jack

Quality Price Value Feels good with or without a t-shirt underneath. Its fabric draws the eye -- and the compliments.
Really outstanding for wearing a kilt casually, and also goes perfectly with jeans and a sport jacket. In fact, it pretty much goes with anything but big, white, Converse clown shoes.
11/10 recommend. (Posted on 12/9/2019) - Need more colors! Buzz

Price Value Quality I have this shirt in 3 colors and wear them with jeans for going out at night or with the kilt for a less-than-formal function. They are bada** and, most importantly, my wife thinks they're hot. (Posted on 10/28/2019) - Unique Shirt Dave

Price Value Quality Slightly thicker material than expected, but absolutely awesome shirt. Everyone asks where I got it. It lets you stand out in a crowd. (Posted on 10/26/2019) - Now I know why Granddad loved this shirt! Marcus

Quality Price Value I will admit opening the package and looking at this shirt was like being a little kid at Christmas. Upon touching the fabric you could feel the quality of the fabric. see the detail in the craftsmanship. I did order the next size up I tried it on before I washed in and after the wash. There was a little bit of shrinkage even line drying it. I blame it on the Texas Summer! It now fits perfectly! (Posted on 9/3/2019) - Great shirt Doug

Price Value Quality I first saw this exact shirt at a Scottish store in Williamsburg VA and wanted it but the price of $59 was more than I was willing to pay. I found it for sale online from the weavers of Ireland but with shipping it would have been closer to $70. So when I saw it on sale here for $49 I jumped at the opportunity. I'm very happy with it and may buy another if the price stays where it is. (Posted on 7/15/2019)

A Brief History of the Grandfather Shirt
The banded collar shirt first appeared in the Victorian age with the invention of detachable collars. It was practical and saved on washing. Naturally, many men simply left off the collar if they didn't need it. And this was especially true of working men such as the Highland ghillie or the Irish navvy. It was comfortable for long days in the fields or on the docks.
Though they were standard work-a-day shirts for many classes in many different countries, it was in Ireland that these shirts became a form of traditional dress, like the aran sweater (the “jumper”) or the flat cap. It was in Ireland that the name “Grandfather’s shirt” was coined and quickly shortened to granddad shirt or graddad shirt.
Our Grandad Shirt is Timeless Fashion
Traditional Irish grandfather shirts were, and still remain, practical yet sleek and dignified menswear. You can find old photos of everyone from Welsh coal miners to American cowboys wearing them (not to mention the occasional businessman relaxing after hours). And yet nothing about the Grandfather shirt feels out of place in the 21st century.
Irish Shirt Quality - Granddad Would Approve
A true Granddad shirt will be made of cotton or linen, or a blend of the two. Ours is made in Ireland of rich cotton with just a touch of linen. There’s just enough linen to add durability and that wonderful nubby texture, but not so much that the shirt will require ironing. It’s just about perfect and will only become more and more comfortable over the years. The front features the traditional placket with a dozen small decorative buttons. On the back you’ll find a reinforced yoke and gusset for ease of movement.
The Perfect Traditional Work Shirt for Your Kilt OR Jeans!
Cut long and roomy, this authentic Irish graddad shirt will easily fit in your kilt or even jeans without pulling out. We offer a variety of colors including a cream, which tones perfectly with most any tartan as cream is a neutral color! Pair this shirt with your favorite kilt, coton hose and flat cap.
