Product Description
This kilt is tailored to the same standards of perfection as our Premier kilt, except we top stitch the pleats to speed up production. Our Top Stitched 8 Yard Kilt is a great option for customers looking for an 8 yard kilt who are on a bit of a budget. Since this model takes less time to produce than our Premier Kilt, we are able to offer a rush order option: You can get this 8 Yard Kilt within 3 weeks (additional charges apply). For a full list of detailed product specs, please click on the "Product Specs" tab below.
Our 8 Yard Kilt is a very versatile garment as it can be dressed down just as easily as it can be dressed up. It will look good in both a casual setting, like festivals or the pub, and a formal setting, like a wedding.
Measuring for your kilt: We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts. Since these are custom made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring. Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab below this text.

Measuring Instructions
Waist
A Traditional kilt is worn higher than your pants, just above the belly button (for larger customers, just above the WIDEST part of your belly). This is where the top of the kilt will sit.
DO NOT HOLD YOUR STOMACH IN. You’ll only going to get a kilt that's too small. Just relax and stand "at ease".
Make sure to use a good sewing tape measure. If you don't have a sewing tape measure, you can use a leather belt to measure. Wrap it around you, mark it and then lay it flat on a metal tape measure to get the measurement. The tape measure should be snug – as snug as you will be wearing the kilt.
*Note: It will probably be 2 to 4 inches more than your pants size. This is common.
*TIP: BIG guys with large bellies may want to wear the kilt around the naval, as it gives a more flattering appearance.
Hip
With the same tape measure, measure around the absolute largest part of your rear.
Take this measurement a little LOOSELY. You should be able to slide a finger between the tape measure and your body when you measure.
This is your HIP measurement. In most cases, it's about 4-6 inches larger than the waist measurement.
Length
If possible, it’s best to take this measurement wearing shorts and a form fitting shirt. There are 3 different ways to measure length:
1) With assistance
2) With bath towel assistance
3) Without assistance
1) Length Measurement with assistance
Stand tall with your back straight. Do NOT look down or bend over as this will change the length measurement. Just stand tall and face forward.
Have the other person measure down the SIDE of your leg. On your side, put the "0" end of the tape measure at the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from). Measure from that point down the side of your body to the middle of your knee.
The number on the tape that is right where the bottom edge of the kilt will be is the length.
2) Length Measurement with bath towel assistance
Take a bath towel and FOLD IT so that it is 24" long.
Wear a pair of shorts, so you can see your knees and stand roughly 10 feet back from a full length mirror. Hold the towel up to your waist, putting the top of the towel at the spot you took the waist measurement… just above the belly button.
If the 24" length hits below your knee, shorten the towel by folding another inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.
If the 24" length hits above your knee, lengthen the towel by unfolding an inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.
3) Length measurement without assistance
Kneel on the floor with your back straight. You're going to measure down the SIDE of your leg to the floor.
From the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from), measure down the side of your body to the floor down the side of your leg. It's easier to put the "0" end of the tape measure barely touching the floor and the numbered end at the top.
SUBTRACT 1" FROM THIS MEASUREMENT to have the kilt sit at the middle of the knee.
Use the following chart for reference. These are typical height / length measurements.

Value Quality Price I couldn't be happier. I ordered the cart before the horse, (ordering from USA kilts) all the necessary kilt accessories. After choosing my tartan I ordered my (American Heritage) kilt.
I have continued shopping USA kilts due to the high quality merchandise, great customer service, and vast knowledge of the Celtic tradition. (Posted on 7/24/2017) - Excellent Kilt Drew W

Quality Price Value I bought this kilt in my mother's clan tartan (MacDonald) and absolutely love it. The attention to detail that they put into this kilt is better than another kilt I had made in Scotland. The fit is perfect and even the straps are embossed with knotwork.
Awesome work guys! (Posted on 2/8/2017) - Great fit, hang, and overall quality! Sporknife

Value Quality Price This is not the first kilt I have had, but it is by far the nicest. I purchased this kilt for my wedding knowing it would be better than the others I have, but I had no idea of how superior it would be! The fit is perfect and the hang is miles beyond my lighter weight and shorter kilts. I would love to say I will be buying another kilt, but the quality of material and manufacture is so high that I imagine this one will last me for decades! (Posted on 6/29/2016) - OUTSTANDING!!!!! Value Quality Price There are not enough superlatives to praise this excellently crafted, perfect-fit, superior material kilt. If William Wallace were sticking it to the English today, he'd be doing it in a USA Kilt! (Posted on 4/26/2016) - Fantastic product! Nick

Price Value Quality Recently received my 8yd top stitched kilt in my clan's tartan from the USA Kilts team. I must say, I love it! Soooo many compliments when wearing it. We ordered the 8yd kilt, flash, tie and fly plaid (along with an Argyll jacket & vest combo). Also ordered the mini-kilt, sash and shawl for the wife. Everything was of exceptional quality and USA Kilts was a PLEASURE to work with, especially after I was such a PITA and kept emailing him to add this and that to the order. I will definitely be recommending him to everyone that asks about my kilt!
Thanks again, guys (& gals)! (Posted on 2/28/2016) - Superb craftsmanship Lamont Clan James

Price Value Quality I'm a little hesitant to write a review so positive but the quality is truly high. I have literally gone over this kilt from edge to selvage edge and can not find a fault or unfinished stitch. I can't believe that they were able to get this thing out the door in less than 3 weeks! Buyers Guide
Question: My tartan is available in 13 AND 16 oz cloth... which should I get?
The weight of the cloth is a personal preference. 13 oz cloth is considered "Medium Weight" while 16 oz is considered "Heavy Weight". While they will both make a very nice kilt, which weight you want is a matter of taste. We would ask you to consider your environment... If you're the type of person who is always 'warm', live in a hot / humid climate or will be wearing your kilt most often outdoors during the summer, then we'd suggest the 13 oz cloth. If you are always cool, live in a cool climate (Canada or northern USA), or will be wearing the kilt indoors most of the time, a 16 oz kilt may be right for you.
Question: Why are there so many / so few choices for my name?
Our wool tartan gallery shows you every stock tartan from every mill in the UK. We want to make sure our customers can weigh all of their options before making a decision. We don't just use 1 mill or 2 mills for our cloth... we use the top 7 tartan mills in the UK (plus some smaller ones for custom weaves). This gives our customers the maximum number of tartan options we can provide.
Some clans have only 1 tartan or there may only be 1 mill that weaves a specific tartan. Larger clans may have DOZENS of tartan designs woven by multiple mills. The options shown in the "Tartan Gallery" lists them all. -
