What are Tartan Trews?
Mens tartan trews are a traditional form of pants made of tartan plaid cloth usually in a similar weight to kilting cloth. Unlike other trousers for men, they are more fitted, following a traditional 19th-century pattern. They also feature the “fish tail” high waist. This design is meant to be used with suspenders (braces) and allows the trews to be worn with a high-cut formal jacket such as a Prince Charlie while preventing your shirt from billowing out awkwardly the way it would with a normal pair of trousers.
Please be aware that our Scottish tartan trews made to measure, so follow our measuring guides carefully. When you buy tartan trews, you are ordering a custom product, like our kilts, which will require approximately ten weeks to produce.
What are Tartan Trousers worn for?
