  • Notes:

In the south-west of Ireland Kerry was once part of the historical Kingdom of Munster and today --within Ireland-- Kerry is still known as “the kingdom.” As is the case with many of Ireland’s coastal counties, Kerry’s history is intimately linked with the ocean. Despite Kerry’s rugged --and beautiful-- coastline and despite the fact that Kerry is home to most of Ireland’s tallest mountains, thanks to the Gulf Stream Kerry is blessed with one of Ireland’s mildest climates. Heavily populated since at least the early Iron Age, today Kerry remains one of Ireland’s most productive regions and is internationally known for its butter and cheese as well as its natural beauty. - notes by Sarah Nagle
