  • Notes:

At the edge of the Irish Sea, County Louth is traditionally Ireland’s smallest county. Nevertheless Louth is home to some of Ireland’s most famous historical sites --including the neolithic tombs of Newgrange, and the later Bronze Age sites that dot the Cooley Peninsula-- and it is also home to some of Ireland’s most famous heroes. According to legend Cuculainn and Queen Mab fought one of their final battles on the green fields of Louth. Much later Louth was honored as the birthplace of St. Brigid. - notes by Sarah Nagle
