Montgomery Hunting Ancient

This "hunting" tartan appears first in the 1842 Vestiarium Scoticum. The "VS" purported to include clan tartans from antiquity. It is generally recognized that most were invented "whole cloth" by the Sobieski brothers. This has not prevented VS tartans from being worn and enjoyed for years. Many, in fact, have become regarded as semi-official or official clan tartans. A sample at Kilbarchan Weaver's Cottage shows a very large sett with the thread count for each blue being 60.
