Our Casual Kilt is made from the best “non wool” tartan fabric available: a 12 oz Polyester Viscose material that is woven in the UK. This fabric is extremely hard wearing, has Low Pill™ technology to resist pilling and is Teflon® coated to resist stains. It holds a crisp pleat and is easy to iron.
The Casual Kilt is designed for the budget-minded customer or first time kilt wearer hesitant to make the investment in a more expensive kilt. It’s also great for highland athletes, runners, and anyone looking for a low-yardage kilt with excellent durability and stain resistance. It’s perfect for wearing to the pub or in situations where spills or getting dirty is expected.
Measuring for your kilt: We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts. Since these are custom made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring. Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab below this text.
The Casual Kilt can either be worn at the "True Waist" (A) like a traditional kilt or at the "Jeans Waist" (B). This is where the top of the kilt will sit.
DO NOT HOLD YOUR STOMACH IN. You’ll only going to get a kilt that's too small. Just relax and stand "at ease".
Make sure to use a good sewing tape measure. If you don't have a sewing tape measure, you can use a leather belt to measure. Wrap it around you, mark it and then lay it flat on a metal tape measure to get the measurement.
The tape measure should be snug – as snug as you will be wearing the kilt.
*Note: It will probably be 2 to 4 inches more than your pants size. This is common.
*TIP: BIG guys with large bellies may want to wear the kilt around the naval, as it gives a more flattering appearance.
With the same tape measure, measure around the absolute largest part of your rear.
Take this measurement a little LOOSELY. You should be able to slide a finger between the tape measure and your body when you measure.
This is the number we use for your hip size. In most cases, it's about 4-6 inches larger than the waist measurement.
If possible, it’s best to take the length measurement wearing shorts and a form fitting t-shirt. There are 3 different ways to measure length:
1) With assistance
2) With bath towel assistance
3) Without assistance
1) Length Measurement with assistance
Stand tall with your back straight. Do NOT look down or bend over as this will change the length measurement. Just stand tall and face forward.
Have the other person measure down the SIDE of your leg. On your side, put the "0" end of the tape measure at the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from). Measure from that point down the side of your body to the middle of your knee.
The number on the tape that is right where the bottom edge of the kilt will be is the length.
2) Length Measurement with bath towel assistance
Take a bath towel and FOLD IT so that it is 22" long.
Wear a pair of shorts, so you can see your knees and stand roughly 10 feet back from a full length mirror. Hold the towel up to your waist, putting the top of the towel at the spot you took the waist measurement.
If the 22" length hits below your knee, shorten the towel by folding another inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.
If the 22" length hits above your knee, lengthen the towel by unfolding an inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.
Once you have the top of the towel sitting at the top of where you want to wear the kilt and the bottom edge hitting the middle of your knee, measure the length of the folded towel from the top to the bottom. That will be your kilt length measurement.
3) Length measurement without assistance
Kneel on the floor with your back straight. You're going to measure down the SIDE of your leg to the floor.
From the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from), measure down the side of your body to the floor down the side of your leg. It's easier to put the "0" end of the tape measure barely touching the floor and the numbered end at the top.
SUBTRACT 1" FROM THIS MEASUREMENT to have the kilt sit at the middle of the knee.
Use the following chart for reference. These are typical height / length measurements.

Price Value QualityI've taken the plunge and now know the benefits of wearing a kilt. Especially living in a hot and humid place where you sweat gravy.
I have tried many different kilts now from cheap ones on amazon, hiking kilts and casual kilts from other sites. The USA kilt stands out in terms of quality. Its really a wonderfully made kilt that looks so professional.
I wear kilts lounging around and on weeks chore runs but the USA kilt is so good looking, you don't want to ruin it by slumming around. Truly excellent quality.
I wore it the first time to an upscale steak restaurant where I was worried the 'men must wear pants' rule would stop me.
And I can tell you from personal experience, everyone realizes what you are wearing when you wear a kilt.

- Very happy Hunter
Quality Price ValueI finally pulled the trigger on the kilt life. I’ve been wanting to for a long while now and after copious amounts of research I decided to trust USA Kilts. I’m glad I did. Received the tailored kilt a few weeks ago, was so happy with it I put in a second order almost immediately.
While I waited for my first kilt ever I went to a Renaissance Fair. Of course I hit up all the kilt shops that were there to see what they had to offer, wondering if I had made my move too soon (my first RenFair ever) and boy am I happy that I went with USA Kilts. For the same price as people were buying at the fair I got my beautiful custom tailored kilt with quality light years ahead of anything I saw.
So if you are taking the kilt life plunge I highly recommend the USA Kilt’s pool. Come on in, the water is fiiine. (Posted on 8/9/2021)
- Great product, fast service Doc
Price Value QualityThis is my 6th casual kilt from USA Kilts, and I am obviously very happy. Rush service was just that - fast. The material is wonderful for summer, and for casual (as the name implies) service, being resistant to dirt and stains, and easily cleaned. I can save my heritage kilts for formal occasions, and rely on this stable for other times. Very happy. (Posted on 8/7/2021)
- Quick and beautiful MacDuffSB
Price Value QualityI had contemplated another vendor, but realized I would have a quicker turn around and better quality from USAKilts. A friend swayed my decision as they ordered the same kilt (& tartan) for the same event I purchased mine for. I am very happy with the quality. Can wait to wear it at festivals. Thanks guys. - Awesome kilt at a great price Casual kilt
Price Value QualityI was a bit hesitant at first when I purchased the PV material thinking it may feel cheap and be uncomfortable. I was wrong. The material feels great and looks just as good. The measurements were spot on and I couldn't be happier. Paid the extra for it to be rushed and it shipped in less than 2 weeks. (Posted on 7/22/2021)

- I am now free of my leg prisons! John
Value Quality PriceI ordered mine in the Kilts and Culture tartan, and as soon as I put it on, I was hooked! The PV fabric moves and breathes super well. The construction is solid not just for a more "budget-conscious" kilt, but in general. I absolutely love it and will be a touch depressed when I lose enough weight to need a smaller one. That, by the way, will take some time thanks to the generously portioned velcro fasteners. (Posted on 6/28/2021)
- OUTSTANDING! Andrew
Price Value QualityI received my kilts and culture tartan casual kilt today, and I'm beyond satisfied, and very impressed with the quality and detail they put so diligently into their products! You can tell these guys are very proud of the work they put into making their kilts! Customer service is spot on as well! Slàinte!!!! (Posted on 6/15/2021)
- Just right, and it's not my first kilt. Doc
Quality Price ValueThis isn't a high-priced 8 yard wool kilt, and it's not meant to be. It is perfect for that casual occasion where the wool would be too warm, too easily soiled, and otherwise more of a pain than it should be.
This casual/PV kilt goes on easily with the Velcro (which hides beneath the belt, anyway, has a nice pleating and nice swing, and after this past weekend's picnic, has proven itself durable and washable.
Additionally, unlike some of the other lower-priced kilts available on-line, the lower edge is selvedge, not hemmed, so the hang is much better.
My compliments - again - to the folks at USA Kilts, especially that li'l ol' kilt maker, Kasey!
I intend to buy more casual kilts, and they will be from USA Kilts! (Posted on 6/7/2021)
