I absolutely love this sweater. Warm even in the rain. I get compliments every time I wear it. I wear it with jeans or a kilt to stay warm and extremely stylish. (Posted on 1/13/2021)

The Aran "jumper" (Irish: Geansaí Árann) takes its name from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. Traditional Aran sweaters are made from undyed wool, hence the cream color called báinín (pronounced "bawneen"). In the old days, the wool was unscoured (not process washed) so that it retained its lanolin - the natural body oils of the sheep. This made the garment water-resistant. And even when soaking wet, a thick wool jumper would keep you warm making it ideal gear for tough Irish fishermen.
