Having first appeared in Vestarium Scoticum 1829-1842, with dark blue guarding the white, the blue had become black by the time it was recorded in both "The Tartans and Clans and Septs of Scotland" 1906 (Johnstone) and "The Clans and Tartans of Scotland" 1976 (Bain).
