Sealed as the true clan tartan by the chief in 1816 for the Highland Society of London collection. Thought to be the sett of the kilts for the Loyal Clan Donnachie Volunteers raised in 1803. The Scottish Tartans Society notes: "Also known as the 'Hunting Robertson'. The sett is reputedly ancient, and resembles the 'Athol Murray', though used only by the Robertsons of the North."
The Robertsons claim descent from 'Donnachaidh Reamhair' who led the clan at the battle of Bannockburn.
