Celtic Artisan Guarantee

We guarantee that every highland wear product USA Kilts sells is proudly made in America, Scotland, England, Ireland or Wales. By purchasing this product, you are supporting skilled Celtic artisans. Your choice honors the heritage you embrace and preserves it for future generations.

When taking measurements for your kilt, make sure to use a good sewing tape measure.  Wrap it around yourself at the top of where you'd like to wear the kilt (either jeans waist or true waist at the navel). The tape measure should be pulled as snug as you want your finished kilt to be.

Do NOT hold your stomach in. You’ll only get a kilt that's too small. Just relax and stand "at ease".

For more detailed instructions, open the grey "Measuring Instructions" tab under the product description or watch a video on how to measure in the "Videos" tab under the main product image.

With the same tape measure, measure around the absolute largest part of your rear.

Take this measurement a little LOOSELY. You should be able to slide a finger between the tape measure and your body when you measure. This is your HIP measurement.

In most cases, it's about 4-6 inches larger than the waist measurement.

Stand tall with your back straight. Do NOT look down or bend over as this will change the length measurement. Just stand tall and face forward.

Have another person kneel at your side with the tape measure. They will put the "0" end of the tape measure on the SIDE of your body at the top of where you took your waist measurement (either jeans waist or true waist).  Measure from that point down the side of your body to the middle of your knee, which is where the bottom of the kilt will be. That distance will be your kilt's length.

For more detailed instructions & alternative ways to measure length, open the grey "Measuring Instructions" tab under the product description or watch a video on how to measure in the "Videos" tab under the main product image.

This is used to double check your length measurement. Please be accurate with your height.

If you're only going to wear a 1.5" jeans belt with your Casual Kilt, get the 1.5" loops.

If you're only going to wear a 2.25" kilt belt with your Casual Kilt, get the 2.25" loops.

If you're going to want to wear both sizes or are going to wear a 1.5" belt now and upgrade to a 2.25" kilt belt later, then order our exclusive "Double Loop" system. Basically, it's the larger loop on top of the smaller loop, so you only see one from the front.

Flashes are the elastic garters worn to hold up your kilt hose. We give you the option to purchase them in the same tartan material as your kilt.

4 clip Kilt Hanger

If you've ever tried to hang a heavy kilt on a 2 clip plastic hanger, you know they can slip off.  Solve that problem by using the same professional grade hanger we use in our store.

Our average turnaround on a kilt is 6 to 10 weeks. If you'd like the kilt faster, we offer a Rush option to have it out the door within 2 weeks for an additional charge.

  • Product Description

Our Casual Kilt is made from the best “non wool” tartan fabric available:  a 12 oz Polyester Viscose material that is woven in the UK.  This fabric is extremely hard wearing, has Low Pill™ technology to resist pilling and is Teflon® coated to resist stains.  It holds a crisp pleat and is easy to iron.

The Casual Kilt is designed for the budget-minded customer or first time kilt wearer hesitant to make the investment in a more expensive kilt.  It’s also great for highland athletes, runners, and anyone looking for a low-yardage kilt with excellent durability and stain resistance. It’s perfect for wearing to the pub or in situations where spills or getting dirty is expected.

Measuring for your kilt:  We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts.  Since these are custom made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring.  Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab below this text.

    Waist

The Casual Kilt can either be worn at the "True Waist" (A) like a traditional kilt or at the "Jeans Waist" (B). This is where the top of the kilt will sit.

DO NOT HOLD YOUR STOMACH IN. You’ll only going to get a kilt that's too small.  Just relax and stand "at ease".

Make sure to use a good sewing tape measure. If you don't have a sewing tape measure, you can use a leather belt to measure. Wrap it around you, mark it and then lay it flat on a metal tape measure to get the measurement.

The tape measure should be snug – as snug as you will be wearing the kilt.

*Note: It will probably be 2 to 4 inches more than your pants size. This is common.

*TIP: BIG guys with large bellies may want to wear the kilt around the naval, as it gives a more flattering appearance.

    Hip

With the same tape measure, measure around the absolute largest part of your rear.

Take this measurement a little LOOSELY. You should be able to slide a finger between the tape measure and your body when you measure.

This is the number we use for your hip size. In most cases, it's about 4-6 inches larger than the waist measurement.

    Length

If possible, it’s best to take the length measurement wearing shorts and a form fitting t-shirt.  There are 3 different ways to measure length:

    1) With assistance

    2) With bath towel assistance

    3) Without assistance

    1) Length Measurement with assistance

Stand tall with your back straight. Do NOT look down or bend over as this will change the length measurement. Just stand tall and face forward.

Have the other person measure down the SIDE of your leg. On your side, put the "0" end of the tape measure at the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from). Measure from that point down the side of your body to the middle of your knee.

The number on the tape that is right where the bottom edge of the kilt will be is the length.

    2) Length Measurement with bath towel assistance

Take a bath towel and FOLD IT so that it is 22" long.

Wear a pair of shorts, so you can see your knees and stand roughly 10 feet back from a full length mirror. Hold the towel up to your waist, putting the top of the towel at the spot you took the waist measurement.

If the 22" length hits below your knee, shorten the towel by folding another inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.

If the 22" length hits above your knee, lengthen the towel by unfolding an inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.

Once you have the top of the towel sitting at the top of where you want to wear the kilt and the bottom edge hitting the middle of your knee, measure the length of the folded towel from the top to the bottom. That will be your kilt length measurement.

    3) Length measurement without assistance

Kneel on the floor with your back straight. You're going to measure down the SIDE of your leg to the floor.

From the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from), measure down the side of your body to the floor down the side of your leg. It's easier to put the "0" end of the tape measure barely touching the floor and the numbered end at the top.

SUBTRACT 1" FROM THIS MEASUREMENT to have the kilt sit at the middle of the knee.

Use the following chart for reference. These are typical height / length measurements.

I've had my casual kilt for a couple of months now. It wears well, and requires absolutely minimal maintenance when not being worn hard.Despite the very light feel of the PV fabric, the drape is perfect, and the kilt moves very nicely. It is FAR superior to it's acrylic competitors in every aspect, and thus well worth the slight increase in expense. Being as light as it is, I expect to be getting a LOT of wear out of it over the coming summer.
My only (and very minor) complaint is that there isn't a strap closure option available for those of us who prefer the traditional look and feel.
Definitely won't be my last Casual from USAKilts. (Posted on 5/21/2019)

I’ve owned my USA Kilts casual kilt for over a year now. I also own a number casual kilts of “other brands.” Hands down dollar for dollar, this is the best for less kilt you can buy. The PV fabric is hard wearing and virtually stain proof. The craftsmanship is second only to their more expensive models. The Velcro closure is tough, someone would have to work pretty hard to tear it off and you’d have to be unconscious. I wear this kilt at least once a week and it has been machine washed regularly. It’s never been pressed. Wash cold, lay flat with pleats straight to dry. I’ve ordered another one as the more I wear kilts the more I want to wear kilts.

Honestly, I have never had a better fitting kilt! It is not my clan kilt but the weavers don't make my clan kilt for the casual kilt. When I have the money I will be buying my clan kilt in 8oz wool (the only option) and I fully trust usakilts to make it fit me. FYI: I am 6' 3" and 220lbs. Thank you usakilts! (Posted on 4/22/2019)

(I should have put this here sooner, as I've been wearing this Kilt for 18 months now, but I tend to forget to do these things, this is on their google reviews and facebook page as well)
Ordered a Pub Package, and I can't rave about how wonderful these folks have been. The first day I was trying to place my order, I was having a computer issue (totally my fault, I had set some firewalls in place while my 6 year old grand daughter was playing a game and forgot to take them down,) and I sent an email to their customer support at 11pm on a Friday night (Midnight for them) and received a response right back and they were going to call me the next day and we would go over the order on the phone. Thankfully I was able to spare them that, as I uncovered my mistake and fixed it (like I said, it was totally on my end.) I placed the order with them on 9/17/2017 and had it at my door on 10/2/2017.
The quality is top notch, and even though I bought a casual kilt, it still feels 100% better than some of the other makers kilts. They have a fan for life, and anyone I know that's in the market, I know where I'm going to send them. USA Kilt all the way! (Posted on 4/7/2019)

Quick turnaround when ordered fits great. Wears well and suits the need for athletics very well. Really like the Velcro in lieu of leather closures on waist. Makes for quick and easy adjustments while participating in athletic events. Overall well done! (Posted on 4/6/2019)

Purchased this kilt as an entry level kilt for bagpiping. Absolutely love it! It works great as a casual kilt, with a day sporran, or you can dress it up a bit with a dress sporran and shirt to use as an inexpensive piping uniform. (Posted on 3/30/2019)

I purchased the casual PV kilt in St Andrews tartan (name of my church) and like the tartan better seeing it in person. I am a big fan of the casual kilt (I have 4) and will likely purchase more in the future. (Posted on 3/25/2019)
