"In Stock" Casual kilts are available in limited tartans, in limited sizes and will ship out within 24 hours.  In the rare instance something is out of stock when the order is placed, we'll let you know immediately.

Our Casual Kilt is made from the best “non wool” tartan fabric available:  a 12 oz Polyester Viscose material that is woven in the UK.  This fabric is extremely hard wearing, has Low Pill™ technology to resist pilling and is Teflon® coated to resist stains.  It holds a crisp pleat and is easy to iron.

The Casual Kilt is designed for the budget-minded customer or first time kilt wearer hesitant to make the investment in a more expensive kilt.  It’s also great for highland athletes, runners, and anyone looking for a low-yardage kilt with excellent durability and stain resistance. It’s perfect for wearing to the pub or in situations where spills or getting dirty is expected.

Measuring for your kilt:  We would ask that you measure carefully for our kilts.  Since these are custom made to fit the measurements provided, you will need to be sure of the exact sizing. We will not refund in the case of mistakes in measuring.  Detailed measuring instructions can be found in the "Measuring Instructions" tab below this text.

The Casual Kilt can either be worn at the "True Waist" (A) like a traditional kilt or at the "Jeans Waist" (B). This is where the top of the kilt will sit.

DO NOT HOLD YOUR STOMACH IN. You’ll only going to get a kilt that's too small.  Just relax and stand "at ease".

Make sure to use a good sewing tape measure. If you don't have a sewing tape measure, you can use a leather belt to measure. Wrap it around you, mark it and then lay it flat on a metal tape measure to get the measurement.

The tape measure should be snug – as snug as you will be wearing the kilt.

*Note: It will probably be 2 to 4 inches more than your pants size. This is common.

*TIP: BIG guys with large bellies may want to wear the kilt around the naval, as it gives a more flattering appearance.

With the same tape measure, measure around the absolute largest part of your rear.

Take this measurement a little LOOSELY. You should be able to slide a finger between the tape measure and your body when you measure.

This is the number we use for your hip size. In most cases, it's about 4-6 inches larger than the waist measurement.

If possible, it’s best to take the length measurement wearing shorts and a form fitting t-shirt.  There are 3 different ways to measure length:

    1) With assistance

    2) With bath towel assistance

    3) Without assistance

    1) Length Measurement with assistance

Stand tall with your back straight. Do NOT look down or bend over as this will change the length measurement. Just stand tall and face forward.

Have the other person measure down the SIDE of your leg. On your side, put the "0" end of the tape measure at the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from). Measure from that point down the side of your body to the middle of your knee.

The number on the tape that is right where the bottom edge of the kilt will be is the length.

    2) Length Measurement with bath towel assistance

Take a bath towel and FOLD IT so that it is 22" long.

Wear a pair of shorts, so you can see your knees and stand roughly 10 feet back from a full length mirror. Hold the towel up to your waist, putting the top of the towel at the spot you took the waist measurement.

If the 22" length hits below your knee, shorten the towel by folding another inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.

If the 22" length hits above your knee, lengthen the towel by unfolding an inch or two, so that the bottom edge hits you square in the middle of the kneecap.

Once you have the top of the towel sitting at the top of where you want to wear the kilt and the bottom edge hitting the middle of your knee, measure the length of the folded towel from the top to the bottom. That will be your kilt length measurement.

    3) Length measurement without assistance

Kneel on the floor with your back straight. You're going to measure down the SIDE of your leg to the floor.

From the top of where your kilt will be (the same height you took your waist measurement from), measure down the side of your body to the floor down the side of your leg. It's easier to put the "0" end of the tape measure barely touching the floor and the numbered end at the top.

SUBTRACT 1" FROM THIS MEASUREMENT to have the kilt sit at the middle of the knee.

Use the following chart for reference. These are typical height / length measurements.

    More than just "casual"  Joe
It took a few years to obtain a kilt from USAKILTS as I wanted to drive there to be measured. Finally, I found a local place to be measured. It fit exactly as measured. For a "casual" kilt the workmanship of the kilt is more deserving of a description other than casual. Customer service was great, Shipping was punctual. Will order another soon. (Posted on 2/22/2022)
Kilted Down, and kilted well  Bernie Sahadi Ne' Kilgore
I ordered this kilt in the PV Casual and absolutely like it and enjoy it. For my purposes the money savings was good value for a great value garment. It looks and wears well. Thank you Derek for working with me and my orders. I will order more in the future. (Posted on 6/30/2021)
    Good Value   Cusporet
I have several kilts from USA Kilts. I have several kilts from USA, as well as other kilt makers/sellers. USA Kilts makes a superior product at a reasonable price. Staff and service are first rate (Posted on 7/31/2020)
Nice addition to the collection  Kenyon
Kilt #6 for me. My first in this fabric & weight. Nice weight for summer. Online measurement guide worked out great for fit. (Posted on 2/11/2020)
    Great  Larry Reed
My first purchase from USA Kilts. I was very impressed with the Sterling tartan casual kilt. The tartan pattern adapts very well with many different color combinations. I was very pleased with the fit of the kilt even though it is off the rack and does not have a third buckle and strap. I will order additional kilts from USA Kilts in the future.

Don’t waste your time on other brands.  Frank
I was hesitant to buy quick ship kilt, but I liked the Sterling tartan and wanted a new kilt for the weekend fair. I have other kilts that are synthetic and cotton, but this Polyester Viscose beats them all hands down.
The fit was perfect, and the Velcro makes it a quick adjustable. Belt loops worked great with the standard width kilt belt. I found the material flows and lays nice, after a two-hour drive both ways the pleats barley had a wrinkle! After washing the pleats only needed a little touch up with an iron with an pressing cloth (cheap sheet) and the pleats look crisp as new.
Shown they have the USA Kilts branding but mine shown up without the patch. I was indifferent to this since it was a fair kilt, I could have gone either way.

    Just right  Duff
This is the first proper kilt for me. Much more comfortable than the utility type kilt I bought first. The old utility kilt was a comfortable, but a bit rough on the back of the legs while seated and had no adjustment at the waist. The only thing tying me to the Sterling plaid is perhaps a stay of some distant ancestor in a dark hidden place at that location. First outing was to the Farmer's Market with one of the Grand Daughters. Got a lot of looks and nice conversations. I like the workmanship, many thanks Jamie! It was a bit cool last Saturday for this material, next kilt from you will be wool. The Velcro fasteners work well, but can see the advantage of the straps. Great product, JUST RIGHT! Great piece  Michael
Material quality is good. I think the weight of the material will be OK in CA heat. Great off the rack fit. I intend to buy more. (Posted on 6/6/2018)
    Reallly good deal!  Rick

    Very nice  Kiltedfirefighter
Ordered a casual kilt for my 14 year old son. Received it in 2 days time. Fits great, looks good. I did remove the patch to make room for a kilt pin. Would order again. (Posted on 2/17/2016)
