Sometimes we kilt wearers travel where weapons are discouraged. Not to fear! The Sgian BREW is here! This stag horn sgian brew is made from real Stag horn (collected in Scotland) and is made in the UK. It features a bottle opener instead of a blade to pass through security easily and to open your favorite beverage even easier!
Please note: Due to the fact that these are REAL stag horn, no 2 are exactly alike. The product you receive will not be the exact one pictured, but very similar to it.

- It's pretty nice! Joe
Price Value QualityI've been looking for a sgian brew for awhile but prices have been prohibitive. Honestly, who would want to pay $75 for a decorative bottle opener. So I decided to go with the stag horn here. I'm very happy with it. it's sturdy and it works. Amazingly enough there are bad bottle openers out there but this one is not one of them! - Great sgian dubh option! Kilted Sax Man
Price Value QualityHere in California it's a felony to carry a sgian dubh with a blade in your kilt hose! This is a great option that could never be considered a blade. Superb quality and a great value! You'll always get great quality at a fair price from USA Kilts! (Posted on 5/27/2019)
- Excellent Piece Jay in Frisco
Price Value QualityGreat product. In your hose, it looks like a proper Sgian Dubh. Besides, you never know when you will need to Pop a Top. (Posted on 9/4/2018)
- excellent Capt Steve
Price Value QualityI'm a bit of a purist but sometimes, in order to avoid frank exchange of ideology with local and federal law enforcement, one needs to have some acceptable place holder for their heirloom sgain dhu, order with confidence that you will always have at your disposal a useful tool (Posted on 3/21/2017)
- Excellent Bob K

- Most excellent! Ed
Quality Price ValueThe bottle opener sgian dubh is what the doctor ordered when a knife is not the appropriate implement for a kilt-wearing occasion (of which there are many). (Posted on 12/16/2015)
- Fantastic addition Carl B
Price Value QualityI just received mine from USA Kilts and this was the perfect touch. I used it along with my new kilt for my sisters wedding and it really made the outfit come together with the stag kilt pin I have. The quality is great and it looks amazing. Thanks again for another fine piece. (Posted on 9/15/2015)
- TSA approved? Sgian Brew
Price Value QualityThis exceeded my expectations. Very handy for piping at a school function, where a blade was not appropriate. Expect it to be useful at the games. (Posted on 11/5/2014)

Wooden and Stag Horn sgian dubhs are used more for casual and ‘day wear’ type outfits. Dress sgian dubhs (usually black in color with or without a stone on the top) are typically reserved for formal functions.
If you choose to wear a sgian dubh, we highly recommend wearing flashes… The elastic band on the flashes helps to keep the sgain dubh “secure” in your hose top. Without the flashes, the sgain dubh may easily fall out (and get lost).
Also, think about where you're going before tucking your sgian dubh into your hose... Many buildings have security screenings and a Sgian Dubh may be confiscated as a weapon. When in doubt, leave it at home or check it in your luggage. This sgian is perfect for travel as it has no blade!
Sgian Dubh, literally translated, means “Black Knife”. It was originally concealed in a small pocket, usually sewn into the armpit area. When in the company of friends, it would be taken out and tucked into the top of the kilt hose as a sign of respect (i.e. not hiding a weapon).
Today, sgian dubhs are usually more decorative than utilitarian. They are worn by tucking about 2/3 of the (sheathed) knife into the top of the kilt hose. Which leg it is worn on is determined by the dominant hand of the wearer (right handed guys put it in their right leg’s hose).
We try to keep this sgian brew in stock at all times. In the rare instance that it is out of stock when you place your order, we will let you know within 24 hours.
