USA Kilts is thrilled to announce a special limited run of the Lunar Tartan!
First designed by Pendleton Woolen Mills in 1977, this tartan lay dormant for many years.
However in 2016, geologist and kilt maker, Dr. Barbara Tewksbury revived it with a unique interpretation. As she explains, "The original Lunar tartan was interesting, but as a scientist who loves the Moon, I just felt it was a bit off. You see, the original design had brown in it, but the Moon is actually relentlessly grey - all shades of grey. I did a minor recoloring for my own custom kilt."
When we saw Barb's kilt we were impressed with this striking but elegant tartan. Of course, being us, we decided to take it a step further!
This limited run of Lunar tartan includes marled thread for the two shades of gray in the design. The added depth and texture really brings the sett to life!
